چکیده

In this work we study the inflammatory process resulting in the development of atherosclerosis. We develop a oneand two-dimensional models based on reaction-diffusion systems to describe the set up of a chronic inflammatory response in the intima of an artery vessel wall. The concentration of the oxidized low density lipoproteins (ox-LDL) in the intima is the critical parameter of the model. Low ox-LDL concentrations do not lead to a chronic inflammatory reaction. Intermediate ox-LDL concentrations correspond to a bistable system and can lead to a travelling wave propagation corresponding to a chronic inflammatory reaction. In this case the disease development depends on the initial condition. If the concentration of monocytes in the intima is sufficiently high, which can be caused by an inflammation related to other factors, then the development of atherosclerosis can start. Otherwise, the system returns to the stable disease free equilibrium. High ox-LDL concentrations correspond to a monostable system and even a small perturbation of the non inflammatory case leads to a travelling wave propagation which corresponds to a chronic inflammatory response.

MyD88-dependent interplay between myeloid and endothelial cells in the initiation and progression of obesity-associated inflammatory diseases

Low-grade systemic inflammation is often associated with metabolic syndrome, which plays a critical role in the development of the obesity-associated inflammatory diseases, including insulin resistance and atherosclerosis. Here, we investigate how Toll-like receptor-MyD88 signaling in myeloid and endothelial cells coordinately participates in the initiation and progression of high fat diet-indu...

Atherosclerosis: a chronic inflammatory disease mediated by mast cells

Inflammation is a process that plays an important role in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis and immune disease, involving multiple cell types, including macrophages, T-lymphocytes, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and mast cells. The fundamental damage of atherosclerosis is the atheromatous or fibro-fatty plaque which is a lesion that causes several diseases. In atheroscle...

Stability Analysis of a Model of Atherogenesis: An Energy Estimate Approach II

This paper considers modeling atherogenesis, the initiation of atherosclerosis, as an inflammatory instability. Motivated by the disease paradigm articulated by Russell Ross, atherogenesis is viewed as an inflammatory spiral with positive feedback loop involving key cellular and chemical species interacting and reacting within the intimal layer of muscular arteries. The inflammation is modeled ...

Lower Frequency of HLA-DRB1*01 in Southwestern Iranian Patients with Atherosclerosis

Background: Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex is a gene family involved in antigen presentation associated with protection or susceptibility to inflammatory, infectious and autoimmune diseases. Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease in which HLA molecules play a role in the initiation and development of the disease through presentation of self or foreign antigens to T cells. Obje...

Numerical Study of Blast Initiation of Detonation Using a Two Step Chemical Kinetics Model

The effect of chemical reactions on the blast initiation of detonation in gaseous media has been investigated in this paper. Analytical method is based on the numerical solution of onedimensional reactive Euler equations. So far, analyses on the blast initiation of detonation have modeled the combustion process as a one-step chemical reaction, which follows the Arrhenius rate law. Previous stud...
